Satire On Saturdays - A Day Late Or A Dollar Short

I was trying to find something "satirical" for this posting and somehow the saying "A Day Late and A Dollar Short" came to me.  That phrase just came out of nowhere.  Now why would I think of that?  Or could it be that I'm getting some kind of inspirational help????  Cue the Twilight Zone theme song (you'd probably have to be over 50 to remember that TV show)!  But who really knows for sure how our minds work?  Well, many believe God knows.

So anyway, I googled this phrase and found that a band called Hanoi Rocks actually has a song with that title.  There was a site that had the lyrics to this song.  I found them rather interesting, so I thought I would share them with you.  I wasn't sure how much satire is in it, because it's not actually funny, but then another definition of satire is irony.  In a way these lyrics do show "ironically" how, especially the younger people, are still trying to find love, all while living in this mad and crazy world of ours.

I thought this kind of coincided with my posting from Friday, which was about putting more love and kindness out there.  We all know some things we have control over, some things we don't.  We can't always control the actions of others, but we can control what we do.  It's about taking personal responsibility for our actions too.  We know we can't always depend on others, or even our government, or other government's of the world, to provide a safe, loving and secure world for us.  So it's up to us to find our way in this "school of hard knocks".  But putting our faith and trust in a Higher Power helps a lot!  Hopefully, it's never too late to acknowledge Him....or do we have forever to decide????  We wouldn't want to be a "Day Late or a Dollar Short" regarding Him, now would we?!  Do you like how I always seem to slip God into my stuff!!

One more thing that's coming to mind is that atheists say that believing in any kind of religion is a sign of human weakness.....we don't need it!  They think there's no heaven or hell.  Science-minded athiests want proof that there's a Supreme Being.  Well, we believers cannot necessarily give a definitive answer.  As I said before, it's a leap of faith and I guess in the end we'll all find out who was right and who was wrong.  In the meantime though, all we have to do is look around at this wonderful planet of ours and the universe.  Where did it all come from?  How did it all begin?  How do flowers know to grow in the spring?  Also, how can spirits, ghosts and miracles be explained?  I believe they are real, and are still happening....yet they cannot be explained.

So, I'd rather not show up late, or find out I have not "paid my dues" (dollar short) to where I might miss out on the "banquet" place where love abounds.  A place that Jesus has invited everyone to....which is happening in heaven.  That is, if you choose to believe there is such a place.  I do.

Here are the lyrics to the song below....

A Day Late Or A Dollar Short

Late at night as I lay down to sleep

I think of all the secrets people keep.

Like how I feel for you
Do you feel it too?
Is it something we have to resume?

We're just two people watching time
Fly by in a world in its obvious decline.

But we are young and strong,
We can carry on and
Find a little Paradise of our own.

'CUZ NO ONE SAVES THE DAY
IT'S NO ONE ELSE'S FAULT
IF YOU'RE A DAY LATE OR A DOLLAR SHORT

Just think about how lovely life could be
Excluding all the man-made misery.

If we're too far behind
And really out of time
Is there another world they plan to find?

TOO MANY DREAMS OF YOUTH
THAT WE NEVER CAUGHT
JUST A DAY LATE OR A DOLLAR SHORT

We're all just lonely people
Only dyin' to fall in love.

FEELINGS THAT WE THOUGHT
DREAMS WE NEVER CAUGHT
JUST A DAY LATE OR A DOLLAR SHORT

THE LONELINESS, THE BLUES
FEELING SO DISTRAUGHT
WHEN YOU'RE A DAY LATE OR A DOLLAR SHORT

TOO MANY DREAMS OF YOUTH
THAT WE NEVER CAUGHT
JUST A DAY LATE OR A DOLLAR SHORT

AND NO ONE SAVES THE DAY
IT'S NO ONE ELSE'S FAULT
WHEN YOU'RE A DAY LATE OR A DOLLAR SHORT
